EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Greenbrier County West Virginia Sheriff's Department is seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff. The minimum requirements are: No prior law enforcement experience is required. United State citizenship. Minimum and maximum age requirements set by West Virginia Code. High School education required. Valid drivers license. No disqualifying criminal convictions. Legally entitled to possess and use a firearm. Meet minimum physical agility, medical and psychological standards.
Base salary is as follows: $31,100; Upon completion of WV State Police Academy - $1,200 raise; Upon completion of one (1) year of service - $1,200 raise; Upon completion of second year of service $1,200 raise; Longevity pay as per WV State Code - $60.00 per year of service.
Greenbrier County pays seventy-five (75%) of health insurance premium and emplyee is responsible for the remaining twenty-five percent (25%). Eye and dental optional.
While under constant and close supervision, icumbents of this class perform all training activities assigned by his supervisors including but not limited to basic police academy training and training set forth in these Rules and Regulations. Until such time as Probationary Deputy Sheriff completes the basic policy academy, they will be limited to duties of the following nature: Routine office work, including processing of prisoners and baliff duties; Service of Civil Process and Subpoenas; not to include Criminal Warrants or Court Orders requiring arrest; Escort funeral processions; Perform road patrol duties and answering of complaints but only while accompanied by one experienced officer who is not a probationary Deputy Sheriff. However, these aforementioned patrol duties will not be carried out on evening or midnight shifts; The Commission reserves to the Sheriff the right to assign other duties on an as needed basis; After a probationary Deputy Sheriff successfully completes the basic Police Academy, his duties may be expanded to but not limited to: Routine law enforcement, crime prevention and detection, and detention activities in the Sheriff's Department.
